The Day We Meet the Camino

13 05 2011

This day began bright and early, with a 5:30 am wake-up call.  We were up, dressed, packed and in the lobby by 6:15 am.  A ride on the Metro (Madrid’s subway system), and a train to Burgos, where we met the Camino for the first time.

M, our tour guide, greets an old friend. Yes, he really is kissing the ground, actually it is a shell marking the route.

We spent the afternoon finding lunch, settling into our room, touring a cathedral, selecting the “shell” we will wear for the next 22 days, and purchasing our “credentials”.   Oh yes, we also did laundry–a little bit earlier in the day, and it’s bright and sunny.  Maybe it will dry.
