Obsession!

1 06 2013

I have managed to satisfy one of my obsessions!

One of the challenges of travelling by bike and packing all your stuff in pannier bags is packing light. On previous trips, we’ve packed clothes for three days and visited laundromats every third day–not necessarily a highlight of the trip, but a time to just sit, read a book, leave with a batch of fresh clothing.

Laundromats as I know them, do not exist in Ireland! Clean clothes were becoming an issue.

We had one B&B host willing to do a load for us, but since it felt like she was doing us a favour we did not want to impose by asking her to do too much. One night I did some socks and underwear by hand (but it takes more than overnight to dry).

By yesterday, finding laundry facilities was becoming an obsession.

We had a short ride this morning and arrived in Galway before 1pm. The first thing I asked was, “where can we get some laundry done?” We bundled up almost our all our clothes and found a laundrette. Not a coin laundry, but a laundry service. Never in my entire life have I ever paid for laundry to be done, until today. Three hours later we returned and picked up a bundle of clean, fresh smelling laundry. Other than the cost (€11/load), I could get used to this.

During those three hours we took a walk through Galway.

Hoping to get to bed early tonight, we have a big day tomorrow!

Took a wrong turn this morning and came across another set of ruins. Walked down a farm lane and through a pasture to get here.

My niece and I paid to have laundry done in Newfoundland. It was heaven.
